Lesson Plans

We are currently seeking funding for a long-term teaching project, which will include the creation of lesson plans for educators across Virginia and the broader nation. We will involve teachers from several Virginia school districts -- including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Petersburg, and Richmond -- as we design three multi-disciplinary teaching guides that are standard-specific.

Each of the chosen school districts will select one teacher from each grade level -- elementary, middle, and high. These teachers will become part of the team creating the teaching guides. The guides will then be posted on our project website.

In addition, we will host two teachers' conferences (one in Norfolk and the other in Petersburg), where we will train educators on the use of our lesson plans. The materials will then be tested in classrooms across Virginia, and will be available on our Underground Railroad website. We anticipate that this project will be concluded in December 2007.
