Truxtun, VA., June 20.-The First Baptist Sunday school opened at the usual hour Sunday morning with a goodly crowd present, The Bible class wonderfully explained by Mrs. J Thomas, of Portsmouth.

The women's Rally began Sunday afternoon. Rev. Gommer preached a soul stirring sermon. His choir and a large part of his congregation followed him here. He will be with us again on Thursday night.

Monday evening, a declamatory contest consisting of five contestants was given in the auditorium, in which Master Luther Johnson was the successful winner of a beautiful gold medal. The instrumental music rendered, under the supervision of Mrs. V. N. Carney added much to the much success of the contest.

The May Festival which was given a few weeks ago, was so well enjoyed by all that it was asked to be repeated. Thursday evening was ser apart for the repetition and the festival was again a great success.

Friday evening, the commencement exercises took place. The auditorium was well crowded. Prof. Jacox, of the Booker T. Washington High School, in Norfolk, delivered an interesting address to the senior class. Members of the class who took part in the exercises were as follows. Master Luther Johnson, valedictorian, and Miss Gyndolin Jackson, salutarian. The graduating class consisted of ten members---seven girls and three boys. Gold medals presented by Dr. A. C. Johnson were as follows: For the best paper on Hygiene, Miss Holyge Ashill; for the best garden, Miss Lourrian Saunders; for improvement in school work, Master Raleigh Smith. Mr. F. D. McCraken presented the diplomas. He made a very interesting speech to the class, which I am sure they will never forget.
The First Baptist Sunday school had its picnic Saturday, June 18th. A special car was procured in which the members and teachers went in to the picnic grounds out at Churchland. All who went enjoyed the trip. The pleasantress of the weather made the outing a great success.

Mr. W. G. Green, of Winton, N. C., and Miss Sarah E. Whitaker, of Mapleton, N. C., were happily married at the home of his sister, Mrs. Militier, 158 Key Road, last Monday evening at 7:30. They left for his home Tuesday morning, where they will reside.

Mr. William C. Ballard, of Hattersville, and Miss Minnie Duke were married Wednesday evening, June 15th, at Olive Branch church. Rev. Hoard, pastor of that church, performed the marriage ceremony. A reception was given intheir honor in the auditorium. Music was rendered by the Manhattan Orchestra. The couple resides at 182 Key Road, where they are housekeeping.

Mrs. B. Lewis, of Ruff, VA., and Mrs. Choat, of Portsmouth, spent Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Smith.

Little Miss Holly G. Asgill, niece of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Harrison, will spend the summer with her mother, who is sick in a hospital in New York.

Dr. P. W. Moore, principal of State Normal School, Elizabeth City, N. C., spent Thursday of last week in Truxtun, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Williams, 125 Key Road.
